Dragons and Damsels

There is a good display of Dragonflies and Damselflies on Shoulder-of-Mutton pond right now. Hundreds of Small Red and good numbers of Willow Emerald Damselflies also larger Brown Hawker, Black-tailed Skimmer and Emperor Dragonflies.

There were good numbers of common butterflies on the plain including Meadow Brown, Gatekeeper, Small Copper and all three Whites. August, a wicked month?

Our swifts will disappear very early on in august, however towards the end of the month migrant birds will start to appear. Look for Wheatear, Spotted Flycatcher (above) and if we are lucky a wader or two.
