A programme of events, outings and practical work is sent to members usually four times a year.

January 2010
3 January, Sunday 10.00 a.m. Practical Work in Wanstead Park Join us for another task and meet by The Temple & Information Centre. Leader: Peter Williams
8 January, Friday 7.30 p.m. Open House for Group Members and friends at Group Chairman's house. We shall provide a buffet and soft drinks; cost £5 per person (bring wine or beer as you wish). Do book with Richard Oakman by 6th January to give an idea how much food/drink to buy 020 8989 3243 and to get travel directions. Hopefully, this will give an opportunity to new members and those not able to attend other events to meet a few of the organisers in front of a cosy [smokeless] coal fire!
17 January, Sunday 10.00 a.m. Water Bird Data Recording Join us for another water bird count on our local lakes. Meet at the Refreshment Kiosk. Leaders: Pete & Valerie Saunders
31 January, Sunday 9.00 a.m. Trip to Amwell Nature Reserve, Herts (TL374135) Now known for its population of Otters, this area has large numbers of wildfowl in winter, often Common Goldeneye, Goosander and Smew. It is also known for its gull roost, sometimes attracting a Glaucous or Iceland Gull. The reedbeds hold wintering Water Rail, and Bittern is now regular. Please phone Tim Harris to book 020 8989 5453

26 March, Sunday Migrant Watch on Wanstead Flats By the end of March, the first summer migrants should have arrived. Join us to look and listen for singing Blackcaps and Chiffchaffs and check on how our Skylarks are preparing for another breeding season. 31 March, Wednesday 7.30 p.m. Annual General Meeting We would be pleased to see members in the Aldersbrook Room of Wanstead House for our annual meeting. This will be your chance to join the committee and re-elect others who wish to continue to serve the Group. We much value your opinions also on what activities the Group should organise and how well we have done during the past year.
April 2010
4th April Sunday Morning Walk 10.30am Meet by the noticeboard at The Temple, Wanstead Park. This is the first of our local monthly walks throughout the summer.
25th April Sunday Migrant Watch 6.30am Meet at Jubilee Pond on Wanstead Flats or 9.00am meet at the Refreshment Kiosk in Wanstead Park. Following the success of the March Migrant Watch, Tim Harris has agreed to lead another session to record the summer migrants in the area. For more details, click here
As stated in the newsletter, it was found that there was no demand for trips further afield last year. We will, as with the second migrant watch above, organise additional activities if there is enough interest and some bat watching evenings will be arranged (with permission from the City of London). Please inform a committee member if you would like to be involved in these.

6th June Sunday Morning Walk 10.30am Meet by the noticeboard at The Temple, Wanstead Park.
27th June Sunday 10.30am Tricia Moxey's Summer Natural History Walk in Gilbert's Slade. Tricia has kindly agreed to do another morning walk for us this year. Meet at the car park on Snaresbrook Road [up the hill beyond Eagle Pond and on the same side of the road].

The programme for the rest of September and subsequent months will be published shortly. We shall again run monthly practical work sessions and a monthly bird count in Wanstead Park.

Please note that the Wren Conservation Group, its Committee, or individuals leading outings accept no responsibility for the safety of those who join us in these events. Those taking part in walks and practical work on Epping Forest land, whether members or not, are covered by the City of London's insurance although they will be asked to sign the schedule presented by the leader at the walk/task.
Meeting locations:
The Refreshment Kiosk in Wanstead Park can be easily found by entering at the Northumberland Avenue entrance from the Aldersbrook estate or walking the shrt distance from the Temple across the plain.
The Temple, Wanstead Park, is the white building at the end of the Warren Road entrance, set in the middle of the Plain near the toilets.
The Jubilee Pond is located on the junction of Lake House Road, Dames Road and Cann Hall Road, Leytonstone E11
Meeting locations for any trips by public transport or members' cars will be as per the relevant entry.
